Nick Vujicic: An Inspiring Man Born without Arms or Legs

Nick Vujicic was born without any arms or legs due to a rare disorder called Tetra-amelia. His parents worried for their son and how he would make his way through life. Nick would forever be unable to hug people, hold someone’s hand, dance, walk, run, or even touch. Initially, his parents were devastated, but Nick was otherwise healthy.
Due to his disability and laws where he grew up in Australia, he was not allowed to enter mainstream school until later, becoming one of the first disabled children to be integrated into the program. He learned to write using the two toes on his left foot. During his school years, Nick had to deal with plenty of bullying, depression, and internal questions as to why he was so different. He felt alone and often wondered what his purpose was in life, or if there was any purpose at all. When he was 8 years old he started contemplating suicide. He begged God to grow arms and legs, but over time Nick learned that his accomplishments were inspirational to many, and he began thanking God for being alive.
Since then he learned how to type on a computer, throw tennis balls, play drum pedals, comb his hair, answer the phone, shave, and get himself a glass of water through the use of a small foot attached to his hip. His foot allows him to balance, type, kick, play football, golf, swim, surf, and pretty much everything he needs for mobility. He loves overcoming the challenges for inventing new methods to overcome his disability. He refers to his two toes as his “chicken drumstick.” Nick always likes making people feel good with humor, and he’s not afraid to laugh at himself.
After school, Nick obtained a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Financial Planning. He then started practicing motivational speaking which was his dream to be able to encourage other people in a religious and moving way. “I found the purpose of my existence, and also the purpose of my circumstance. There’s a purpose for why you’re in the fire.” Nick believes that there is a reason in every struggle we encounter, and that our attitude along with our faith can be the keys to overcoming the challenges we face.
Nick states that a major turning point in his life was when his mother showed him a newspaper article about a man with severe disabilities and how he dealt with it. This led him to realize that he wasn’t the only one with major struggles.
Nick has done so much more than overcome his disability. At the young age of 27, Nick is the president of a non-profit organization; Life Without Limbs; and he has his own motivational speaking company; Attitude is Altitude. Nick started his first company when he was 17 and started speaking at the age of 19. He has since traveled around the world speaking to millions of people, giving them inspiration, courage, and the hope he’s always dreamed of. “If God can use a man without arms and legs to be His hands and feet, then He will certainly use any willing heart!”

Just happened upon your message last night while changing channels on the t.v. Wow!!! I needed it, we have been going through something with our Soon to be 20 yr old son for a yr. Have found out he has 2-3 bacteria in his system that’s playing havoc with his CNS, producing tic and OCD symptoms. It has been so scary for us, his family to watch him. He’s so normal, he bikes, swims, runs, but these symptoms plague him so.
We go to another doctor in the a.m. to see if she can help him rid his system of what’s bothering him so.
Through it all, he accepted Jesus into his heart and relies heavily on Him.He is so strong to have to be going through this!!!

I’m 45 years old and mother of two boys. I always felt I was SO Blessed because they did not have any disabilities other than FREE WILL (ha ha). After seeing you, your story and your love of life, I realized that I would have been BLESSED either way. You have inspired me to get through the struggles that I have with the fixable things in my life…I lost my management position, but can get another job. I’ve gained weight, but can start walking or ANY form of excersize to get it off…bottom line is that you MAKE IT HAPPEN every day with obstacles I will never face!!! Nick you are truly an inspiration:) For my speech class we had to pick a famous speaker to give a speech on. I choose you! I saw you speak July of 2009 at a youth convention in Colorado, where you forever impacted my life. You have challenged me to grow in my faith, but more importantly, you have shown me that my life has a purpose and I need to live for others like you do! What you have done with your live is amazing. Here I sit dwelling everyday in my own struggles thinking it will never end! I have hit rock bottom in my life! However seeing you on a church program yesterday gave me so much hope. It was a quote you said “he makes us lay in green pastures” for only just a alittle while, and this is to make us see How we are living our lives, what we are doing wrong. I can’t really put this all in the right words but, you’ve really inspired me to not be defeated and to give it my all and live the best life possible for myself and my family, just as you have done….thank you!

Every morning when I open my eyes I see your smiley face looking at me from the picture on my bookshelf and I can not do anything but smile back. Dear Nick, I feel somewhat speechless. Most of these comments have already said how I feel about you and my self. My life”s worries seem so insignificant compared to what you have over come. I feel guilty for complaining about such little things in life. Your truly an inspiration. I need to be closer to God, and accept myself the way He made me, for I am blessed in every other part of my life so far and I have benefited from the bad parts of my childhood. I feel better prepared for what God may have in store for my future because of you. I will keep you im my thoughts for the rest of my life and hopefully, when something bad happens down the road, i will remember you and reach out to the lord and make the best of it.
I hope you will visit the east coast of Canada one day. I”m from Newfoundland but It doesn”t matter which province you visit, if you come, i”ll be there. God bless you and your future family.

Nick i thank GOD for you ,you are the biggest miracle i have seen because you don”t have arms and legs but your sooooooooooooooooooooooo not happy but joyful in GOD.Through you GOD had shown me what life really means.i had wished to know how to live my life for GOD and only him.i was a Cristian since i was a child and i still am.but not a complete one. dear Nick,i feel really challenged ever since i followed your testimonies,how God is using you to transform the hearts more specially of young people.God has no mistakes in his entire life,He had a very good plan when he was creating you.thanks indeed to allow Him to use you though it could have been worse if you did the contrary.As from to day i learnt to praise the Lord in all challenges which may come to my ways,because i know there is good reason for them to happen.you thought me alot and i am more than blessed to read about you!would you please come to Africa(in RWANDA)there many people who will be uplifted by your message of hope,and for some their confidence level will be rebuilt as there taking themselves to be useless in life because of their physical disabilities!For some they were born with them and for others it has just came after Genocide.
