METRO MALINI CHIB

When 44 year old Malini Chib decided to capture her moments in writing, she had no options other than to use her one finger. A 50,000-word, 200-page autobiography that is compelling and extraordinary. This book would give anyone hope and faith to live their lives to the fullest.

Malini’s book, titled “One Little Finger,” took two years to write with only her left index finger and her laptop, which is equipped with a communicator’s keypad. With over 250,000 keys hit, this feat was not as easy as one might think. Malini was born with Cerebral Palsy.

Cerebral Palsy is a form of paralysis believed to be caused by a prenatal brain defect or by brain injuries caused during birth, mainly marked in certain motor areas and characterized by difficulty in controlling voluntary muscles.

Born in Calcutta, India in the late 60’s, Cerebral Palsy was rarely heard of. With the feeling of helplessness from the doctors, her parents Mithu Alur and Ranjit Chib took their journeys to England. Despite all the odds, Malini lives her life with great admiration from her mother, whom the book is dedicated to. Mithu says “I don’t think I have given Malini as much as she has given me. Her refusal to get bogged down with sadness when life didn’t shape out the way she dreamt is an inspiration to everyone.

Malini views life very much like Roberto Bengini in Life is Beautiful.” Malini is the founder and chairperson of Able Disabled All People Together (ADAPT) Rights Group. She is also the trustee of ADAPT, formerly known as the Spastics Society of India. Her mother founded the Spastics Society of India – an organization that publicized holistic education and rehabilitation services for people with neurological and physical disabilities. We all must remember, no matter if you are disabled or not, anything is achievable with just a little hope and faith. Keep strength in your heart and you could climb any mountain.
