The National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) honored Senator Chris Dodd of Connecticut to acknowledge his career long advocacy of helping those with disabilities. Senator Dodd has spent his career committed to ensuring the fair treatment of those with disabilities.

“You almost feel bad for getting awards like these, because you shouldn’t get awards for doing what is right,” Dodd said as he accepted his award.

Dodd is no stranger to dealing with issues concerning those with disabilities. In 1999, he wrote and helped pass “The Compassionate Care Act”, which lessens the use of abusive restraint and seclusion practices in health care facilities. Most recently he introduced legislation to do the same thing in the school system. There are no clear standards for these practices in schools at the moment.

The National Disability Rights Network is a non-profit organization that works to create a society in which people with disabilities are afforded equality of opportunity and are able to fully participate by exercising self-determination.
